I'll admit this was all inspired from recently learning about the life cycle of jellyfish and their two life stages. The purpose for all living things is to reproduce afterall.
I feel nerdy that I become fascinated in this stuff but do not wish to become a scientist. I prefer science fiction.
--------
The Onion's ability to reproduce a single pikmin seed after an extinction is possible probably from a vacuole that stores emergency nutrients like in plants and can release it like an animal's liver if starved of food or to produce a pikmin seed.
Pikmin must be closely related to carnivorous plants as they respire like animals for chemical energy -hence they can drown quickly. They would use this energy as a metabolism. Pikmin would still need to do photosynthesis to be able to respire but they would use respiration more since their body is less efficient for photosynthesis. If pikmin were any larger than they are now they wouldn't live for very long. Drinking nectar helps speed growth dramatically and it has so much sugar that the pikmin probably needs to expend it, causing it to flower instantly. They probably use nectar as an extra food source because pikmin have an irresistable instinct to pull special grass where nectar can be found.
They are closey related Creeping Chrysanthemum because of the ambulatory root structures, but they require no photosynthesis and instead prey on creatures. This allows them to be larger.
Now to explain how they all have special elements and abilities... I'm joking! xD
This is all a fictional pikmin theory in general made by me. Unless it can be argued. Than that would be a prediction.
Awesome in my opinion, a great theory on the lifecycle of Pikmin. The only thing left unexplained is how the Purple and White flowers fit into their lifecycle.
Indeed. You can only go so far with Nintendo and the shrooms.
Obviously they are pikmin reborn and changed... but WHAT are those flowers doing there underground!? Where do they come from!? They seem to just be waiting for pikmin specifically to place in its ovary and the pikmin want to be thrown in.

8o Woah! This is on the coolness bar with my biology book! (I read about tetrapods instead of paying attention. :B Photos of the heart give me ghost pains.) So well thought-out and a great theory, if Pikmin existed I'd find this completely believable. Love science fiction, adds to the lovely illusion you could inhabit this world or coexist with the sci-fi creatures. That picture with the Onion missing the ship in the last panel is....adorable. xD
Ha ha ha! Awesome. I say you should be the person to travel to the world of Pikmin and study them....while slowly building your empire. Then, on a cold, dark night...prepare your troops to take on that world....AND CONQUER IT!!!!
Whoops, sorry. This is a pretty good hypothesis. (to tell you the truth...the kid in me thought this was supposed to be a joke. Shh...don't tell anyone!)
Um....Can I ask you something? What's your theory on the Pikmin's home world? Do you think it's Earth in the future or an AU?

I'll never look back. I got no regrets Cause time doesn't wait for me I choose to go my own way
Thank you! 8P I don't know why I like doing it. Sci-fi brings a warmness to my heart. Onion: :C My provider! I shall miss you!

Okay this might sound crazy, but they might have evolved from the organic compounds of a fallen meteorite!! As for a futuristic Earth... nah. Alot of the treasures they found underground would of been in real bad shape. But maybe Nintendo did take over the Earth with their merchandise... AU, Astronomical Unit?

Fallen Meteorite? Like...Kryptonite? Heh, gosh darn. Pikimn would make such an awesome book or anime!(at least I think so)
Hmm....maybe a disease(like the avian flu) wiped all of us out and...I don't know...cells mutated...gosh this is hard...
But yes...your theory makes sense. Heck, I haven't even of thought of an asteroid hitting Earth! You idea makes more sense every time I think about it...hmm...
